贵格会教徒的教育

敬拜聚会 is a centerpiece of Quaker education 和 the student experience at Penn Charter. Each week, students attend 敬拜聚会 with their 老师, most often by grade or division.

The central concept that there is "that of God" in every person is foundational to what we do throughout the school. That tenet leads us to value each child for his or her accomplishments, to believe in encouraging students from diverse ethnic, racial 和 religious backgrounds to attend the school, to discuss 和平ful resolution of difficulties whether those difficulties occur on the kindergarten playground, the 上学校 playing fields or in the world beyond Penn Charter, 并培养为他人服务的承诺.

如果被问及佩恩大学的贵格会, 大多数学生会专注于敬拜聚会, a time of silent meditation punctuated by thoughts any member of the group wishes to share. 学生 meet each week, most often by division or grade. For the pre-kindergartner, that meeting may be five minutes of silence. By the close of the year, the meetings have reached 20 minutes. Upper 和 中学 students meet for 40 minutes weekly. 最常, students who choose to speak share a reflection about some event of importance in their lives or reflect on one of the 贵格会教徒的法度: community, 平等, 完整性, 和平, 服务简单, 社会公正和管理.

社区

服务

Participating in service is one way Penn Charter students develop an awareness 和 empathy towards particular community issues 和 others. 贵格会的一句名言是“让你的生命说话。,” drives discussion 和 action about doing good for others 和 our world because it represents the best of who we are 和 want to be. 服务 reminds students of the need to consider others 和 the powerful feelings that result. 学生 participate in school-wide events like the MLK Day of 服务 as well various division 和 年级水平 projects throughout the year. Our service partners include places like the Widener Memorial School, 地平线之家, 无论谁的福音使命, 费尔蒙特公园, 斯库尔基尔图书馆的瀑布, Philabundance, 红十字会大楼, St. 詹姆斯学校和援助之友.

宗教生活委员会 are charged with looking after the Quaker 和 spiritual life of their division. These committees helps schedule 敬拜聚会 in a variety of settings 和 formats, 是整个部门吗, 年级水平, 或者在教室里. 当特殊事件或演讲者到来时, this committee often helps to craft queries or material for the students that connect to the presentations. 最后, the Religious Life Committee guides 和 shapes the "Quaker-ness" of each division, by organizing events or school materials that help bring attention to a testimony.
